Ok. So I just have to list this as a potential aspect of my dream home. COMPOSTING TOLIETS!
The photo above is of a toliet made by Nature's Head ($850) then there is the Loo Watt........ supposedly it is made of 90% horse manure AND it makes electricity from your poo-ing. Not sure how this works...........when I googled it I found the website for Loowatt which is currently under construction in 2010. Perhaps I will invest in loowatt...........I like the idea!!
So my post today is on the power of poo. Poo! Can you believe it! We can DO something with POO. My job 10 or so years ago was as a naturalist at Wildlife Prarie Park in Peoria, Illinois. Long before the green movement, WPP was a master at poo! We had composting toliets in our main visiting area!! Over 200,000 people visited us each year. It was amazing! Now-a-days all you have to do is google "composting toliet" and there are SO many choices! Youtube has a video on how to install your very own composting toliet! And Oikos has a library on the types and choices of composting toliets you can purchase or build!
To get reviews of composting toliets check "Composting Toliet World"! They've sat on 'em all and rated them appropriately! They also have information on where to buy them. They aren't cheap, but when you think that you won't be spending money on washing water and fertilizer down the drain -----it is well worth the money spent! FYI: When searching for a toliet google "boats and composting toliets.....sometimes the prices are cheaper and the toliet itself is smaller..... Here is a site for marine composting toliets.
